| LifeLine Provides New Hope for Animal Cruelty Victims LifeLine Animal Project is working with the DeKalb County Animal Services' Animal Cruetly Task Force to provide veterinary care and rehabilitation for victims of animal cruelty. While authorities work to prosecute their abusers, we work to heal these special dogs and cats from their physical and emotional wounds. Each of them is treated for any medical conditions, then given one-on-one training and socialization to become ready for a loving home. Without our intervention, all of these innocent animals would be destined for euthanasia. This important effort is made possible entirely by donations from a caring community. | | | Juno, the Pit Bull Terrier mix Juno was found in an abandoned house with serious wounds on her shoulders and back. She began her recovery in the DeKalb shelter, then came to LifeLine to start a new life. Her back wounds were still painful when we first met her, but she never stopped wagging her tail or trying to give kisses. Completely healed now, Juno is the consummate lap dog, despite her 50 lbs. She is happy, playful, and gets along well with other dogs. Often the victims of bad press and worse abuse, pit bulls are actually very loyal, loving, and exuberant dogs. | | Theodore, the Golden Retriever mix Theodore and his friend Rosa were seized in an investigation for cruelty and neglect. He is approximately 3 years old. He spent the beginning of his life relegated to the end of a chain until being rescued by DeKalb County's Animal Cops. Despite a history of neglect, Theodore is a happy, people-loving dog and will make a wonderful companion. He is a bit sensitive to being pulled on from the neck, of course, and would prefer to be walked on a harness. Theodore is also undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Heartworms are transmitted to dogs and puppies by mosquitos. Without the protection of a heartworm preventive, all dogs are at risk of getting heartworm disease – a potentially deadly illness. Once a dog is infected with heartworms, treatment can be difficult and expensive. Thankfully, Theodore is expected to make a full recovery! She is a 5-year-old retriever mix who loves people and really enjoys her toys. Like her companion Theodore, Rosa was chained in a back yard until being rescued by DeKalb's Animal Cops in a cruelty investigation. Rosa is now thriving in her new life, forever free from the end of a chain. She is also undergoing treatment for heartworm disease, and like Theodore, is expected to fully recover. She was terribly neglected, underweight, and bred by her owner despite her poor physical condition. Blondie came to LifeLine needing emergency surgery for a prolapsed uterus. Now on her way to a full recovery, Blondie is having a great time at LifeLine. She is very loving and sweet, adores people, and is already house-trained. She is a natural at playing ball, of course. Sprocket was nearly unable to walk when she came to the DeKalb shelter. In need of emergency hip surgery (FHO), Sprocket's only hope was at LifeLine. She is now recovering in a foster home and ready for a new home of her own where she will get the love and care she deserves. Sprocket is about 1-1/2 years old. She's a lovely tri-color mixed breed, with a white "sock" on one front paw, a white tip on her black tail, and a gorgeous, shiny coat. She is happy-go-lucky, and friendly with grown-ups, kids and dogs. She is house-trained, crate-trained, sofa-trained (as in, she knows how to make herself comfortable on the sofa), and very well-behaved. Sprocket was adopted by a great family on May 31, 2009! Congratulations and best wishes to her new family, and special thanks to Sprocket for our time with her. | | Please join us in fighting animal cruelty and help give these animals a new beginning.
